Imaging reports are critical for diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions. Within Canvas, imaging documents are integrated through the Data Integration system, allowing for streamlined upload, review, and chart linking. Reports may be uploaded manually or received via fax, and once linked, they can be reviewed, edited, or associated with imaging orders. This article provides a complete guide for managing imaging reports to ensure accurate and organized documentation that supports clinical decision-making.

User’s Guide

This section outlines the essential steps for managing imaging reports, including linking, reviewing, editing, and removing reports.

Manage Imaging Reports

Imaging documents can be added and managed in two primary ways:

Direct Upload

  1. Go to the triple-line menu > Data Integration > Upload Document.

  2. Upload documents directly from your computer.

  3. Link documents to the appropriate patient chart as Imaging Reports

Faxed Documents

Linking Imaging Report to Patient

  1. In the Data Integration section, locate the Link to Patient field.

  2. Search for the patient by name or date of birth.

  3. Select the patient and choose Imaging Report from the Document Type dropdown menu.

  4. Assign a Reviewer

    • If a care team lead is assigned, their name is prefilled in this field

    • If no care team lead is assigned or a different reviewer is needed, choose the name of the team or individual that needs to review the results.

  5. Complete the remaining fields. Required fields are marked with a red asterisks

  6. Click Ready for Clinical Review to complete the linking process.

  7. Click the patient's name to go directly to the patient's chart

Reviewing Imaging Results

Once linked, imaging results can be reviewed using one of three methods:

Review from Patient Chart

  1. Click Sign to finalize the review process.

Reviewing from Imaging Review Command

  1. Insert the Imaging Review Command in a new or existing note.

  2. Select the appropriate report from the dropdown.

  1. To view the imaging report, click the PDF button on the card to open it in a new tab.

  1. Complete the necessary fields in the review modal and Sign.

Reviewing from User Panel

  1. Navigate to the User Panel in the Schedule View.

  2. The imaging icon will display a red badge indicating pending reviews.

  4. Select a report to review and complete the process in the Imaging Review Modal.

Editing Imaging Report

Reports can be edited from both the Patient Chart and the Schedule View.

Editing from Patient Chart

  1. Open the patient chart and click the Imaging Icon in the patient panel.

  3. Click Edit to update:

    • Report name

    • Collection date

    • Comments

    • Document type

  4. Click Save to apply changes.

Editing from User Panel

  1. In the Schedule View, click the Image icon in the user panel

  2. Locate the imaging report card and select Edit.

Removing Imaging Report

  1. Locate the imaging report card in either the Patient Chart or User Panel.

  2. Expand the report card and click the dropdown arrow next to Edit.

  3. Select Remove to open a confirmation prompt.

  4. Confirm the action, and the imaging report will be permanently unlinked from the patient’s chart.

Linking Imaging Order to Results

  1. If an imaging order was not linked in Data Integration, select Link Orders on the imaging report card.

  2. A dropdown will show all open imaging orders for the patient (committed or uncommitted).

  3. Select the appropriate order. The provider’s name will appear, confirming the link.

Removing Imaging Order from Results

  1. Open the imaging report card in the Patient Chart or User Panel.

  2. Click Edit and remove the linked order by selecting the X next to the order name.

  3. If necessary, link a new order following the steps outlined above.

Reviewing Internal Comments for the Imaging Review

Internal review notes for the image results are only visible on the command itself. Follow these steps to be routed directly to the command.

  1. Navigate to the patient chart

  2. Click the Imaging icon in the patient panel

  3. On the imaging report card, click Reviewed on [DATE] at [TIME]

  4. A new tab will open that takes the user directly to the associated Imaging Review command.

Assigning Processed Imaging Results to

Results can be assigned to a team or individual after the results have been processed through Data Integration

Assigning Imaging Results to a Team

  1. Click the Imaging icon in the patient or user panel to open the result cards

  2. Click the team link on the card to open the dropdown. It will either say No Team Assigned or state the name of the team currently assigned
