Diagnostic Theater views provide an efficient way to visualize and document trends for laboratory results and questionnaire scores within Canvas Medical. This powerful feature allows healthcare providers to create customized views that display patient data over time, making it easier to track progress, identify patterns, and make informed clinical decisions. The tool supports both laboratory values (using LOINC codes) and questionnaire scores, enabling comprehensive patient monitoring across multiple data types.

User's Guide

Viewing the Diagnostic Theater

To access and review patient data using Diagnostic Theater views:

  1. Within the patients chart, select the Labs icon in the patient panel to open lab reports

  2. Click Diagnostic Theater at the top of the lab reports panel

  3. Click the filter icon

  4. Select a diagnostic view from the dropdown menu

  5. Review the results and trends

Adding the Diagnostic View to a Chart Note

Diagnostic data can be incorporated directly into a patient note

  1. Within the patients chart, select the Labs icon in the patient panel to open lab reports

  2. Click Diagnostic Theater at the top of the lab reports panel

  3. Select a diagnostic view from the filter dropdown

  4. Click +Add to note at the top right of the view to add a reference table to the note.

    • If a note has been selected, the table will populate directly in the note

    • If a note has not been selected, the table will open in a chart review note

Configuration & Set Up

Creating a Diagnostic Theater View

To set up a new Diagnostic Theater view for tracking laboratory results or questionnaire scores:

  1. Navigate to Settings

  2. Select Diagnostic View under the Practice heading

  3. Click Add Diagnostic View + in the upper right

  4. Complete the required fields:

    • Originator: User creating the diagnostic view

    • Name: Will be the name of the diagnostic view in the diagnostic theater

  5. Click + Add another Diagnostic view element

  6. Configure the diagnostic view element:

    • Data type: Indicates where the data is being pulled from

    • System: Coding system used

      • For lab diagnostic views, use LOINC for the system

      • For questionnaire diagnostic views, the system must match the code_system used on the questionnaire loader sheet (cell 5D)

    • Code: Unique code for the lab or questionnaire results

      • For lab diagnostic views, use LOINC codes

      • For questionnaire diagnostic views, two code option can be used from the questionnaire loader sheet.

        • Questionnaire code (cell 5E)

        • Scoring function (cell 5F)

    • Name: Title of the view in the Diagnostic Theater

    • Units: Specify the appropriate units for lab values; leave blank for questionnaire scores

    • Ordering: Where in the view will rank in the Diagnostic Theater dropdown

  7. Click +Add another Diagnostic view element if additional tests or questionnaires need to be added and repeat the process

  8. Select Save to create the view once complete

Editing a Diagnostic Theater View

To modify an existing Diagnostic Theater view:

  1. Navigate to Settings

  2. Select Diagnostic View under the Practice heading

  3. Select the name of the diagnostic view that is being modified

  4. Make adjustments to any fields

  5. Select Save to apply the modifications

Q: What types of data can I track in Diagnostic Theater views?

A: You can track laboratory results (identified by LOINC codes) and questionnaire scores (using system codes defined in questionnaire templates).

Q: Can I modify the order of elements in my diagnostic view after creation?

A: Yes, edit the view and adjust the Ordering numbers to change how elements are displayed in the Diagnostic Theater.

Q: Why isn't my questionnaire score appearing in the diagnostic view?

A: Ensure you're using the correct system and code from the questionnaire template, and verify that the questionnaire has been properly configured with the appropriate coding.
