Command | Goal

Goals Command helps Canvas Users keep track of patient's care goals.

Step By Step

Create a Goal

  • Being within an open note of the desired patient's chart

  • Type "goal"

  • Select "Goal" from the menu that appears to populate the Goal command into the note

  • Fill out the respective fields, including:

    • Goal name (Free text)

    • Start date

      • Today's date will auto-populate but you can change the start date using the calendar 

    • Due date (Select date from calendar)

    • Status (drop down menu)

      • In Progress

      • Improving

      • Worsening

      • No Change

      • Achieved

      • Sustaining

      • Not Achieved

      • No Progress

      • Not Attainable

    • Priority level (drop down menu)

      • High Priority

      • Medium Priority 

      • Low Priority

    • Progress / Barriers (free text)

  • Select Create to commit the command

Update a Goal

  • Being within an open note of the desired patient's chart

  • Type "update" or "goal"

  • Select "Update goal" from the menu that appears to populate the Update Goal command into the note

  • Select the goal you wish to update from the drop down menu in the Update Goal field

  • Note due date will autopopulate to match the initially documented due date

  • Update due date if needed

  • Update status

  • Note Priority will autopopulate to match the initially documented priority

  • Update Priority if needed

  • Document Progress/Barriers (free text) 

  • Select Save to commit the command

  • Ensure update is reflected in the patient summary

Close a Goal

  • Being within an open note of the desired patient's chart

  • Type "Close" or "goal"

  • Select "Close goal" from the menu that appears to populate the Close Goal command into the note

  • Select the goal you wish to close from the drop down menu in the Close Goal field

  • Update status

  • Document Progress/Barriers (free text)

  • Select Save to commit the command

  • Ensure goal is no longer reflected in the patient summary 

View Progress of Goal

  • Being within the desired patient's chart

  • Locate Goals section of the patient summary 

  • Note the Goal name, Current Status, and Due Date is easily visible from the patient summary

  • Click on Goal to view more details, including:

    • Start date

    • Due date

    • Priority level

    • Assessment date(s) and their respective status

    • Comment on progress or barriers associated to that assessment 

  • Click on specific assessment dates to view the associated progress or barrier comment 

  • Click on the "x" or anywhere outside of the modal to exit

Filter Goals

  • Being within the desired patient's chart

  • Locate Goals section of the patient summary 

  • Hover over the Goals section header to bring up the filter button 

  • Locate and click on the filter icon to the right of the header

    • 2 filter drop down menus will appear

  • Use the first drop down menu to filter by:

    • Active

    • Closed

    • All

  • Use the second drop down menu to sort by:

    • Due date

    • Alphabetically

  • Click on the filter icon to hide the filter/sort drop downs
